Balancing a music career with a carpentry business
Hailing from Oniipa in the Oshikoto Region, musician Sakaria Megameno Ndjembo, also known as 'Lucid Meno,' has ventured into the upholstery and carpentry business.
He began sharpening his skills in the industry in 2022 and credits Vincent Muyumba, an entrepreneur and his mentor, as the key inspiration behind the start-up of his furniture business.
Lucid Meno’s Upholstery and Carpentry manufactures a variety of furniture products, including beds, headboards, kitchen cabinets, cupboards, couches and wardrobes, all within Windhoek.
When asked about the challenges he faces as a business owner, Ndjembo said: “Working with people is very challenging. For example, being disappointed by someone you trust within the business."
Bigger and better
Despite the challenges, the artisan is proud of the skills he has acquired in furniture design and creation.
While remaining actively involved in carpentry, the young entrepreneur plans to continue his music career under his stage name, 'Lucid Meno,' as a recording artist.
He kicked off his musical career in 2017 with his first audio release on YouTube as a hip-hop and R&B artist and intends to stay active in the music industry.
On the carpentry side, Ndjembo is focused on building a strong clientele and offering the best client services in Windhoek, with plans to eventually expand nationally.
His advice to youth is to always surround themselves with the right people. “Make a positive difference, whether in your day-to-day life or someone else’s,” he said, noting that this is a principle he lives by.
