Empowering Women in Communication: Meet Old Mutual's New Senior Public Relations Consultant

With a degree in Media Studies from UNAM, where she specialised in Public Relations, Hileni Amadhila started out in journalism but quickly moved into a variety of positions that included stakeholder relations, corporate communications and brand management.

"My experience has spanned various industries, enabling me to manage internal and external communications," she says. "I've crafted messaging and developed campaigns that align with organisational goals while enhancing brand perception."

In her current role at Old Mutual, Amadhila primarily oversees the brand and communications strategy, focusing on stakeholder management, media relations and digital marketing. "My responsibility is to maintain and elevate Old Mutual’s brand reputation by ensuring consistent communication across all channels," Amadhila says.

Reflecting on her previous positions, Amadhila highlights the many experiences that have shaped her career. With roles ranging from Communications Specialist to Brand Manager and Copywriter, these experiences have proven crucial in her current role. "Strategic thinking, crisis communication, media relations and stakeholder engagement are all skills I've honed over the years," she says. “Navigating a large established brand like Old Mutual requires agility and innovative thinking.”

As in any profession, there are always challenges. For Amadhila, one of the most pressing involves maintaining consistency in messaging across multiple channels while adjusting to a constantly changing media landscape. "Adapting to new technologies and optimising our communication processes is essential."

Beyond her professional pursuits, Amadhila finds joy in reading, hiking and travelling. These hobbies are her way of unwinding and expanding her horizons.

Amadhila strives to inspire those aspiring to enter the field of Public Relations.

"Real-world experience is critical; internships and freelancing provide the opportunity to develop practical skills while networking and building relationships with industry leaders is also vital."

For those seeking personal and professional growth, Amadhila says, “Always look for opportunities that push you outside your comfort zone. Cultivating emotional intelligence and resilience will help you navigate challenges and strengthen relationships.”

As she embarks on this new chapter at Old Mutual, Amadhila stands as a source of inspiration for women in the industry, proving that with determination and creativity, barriers can be broken and futures can be created.
