Joseph Chendo Samuka joins Medisan Pharmacy as assistant pharmacist

Medisan Pharmacy at Wernhill Mall has announced the appointment of Joseph Chendo Samuka as its new assistant pharmacist.

His appointment marks the next step in a journey defined by perseverance, determination and a passion for healthcare.

Samuka recently completed his studies at Welwitchia University, having begun his academic journey in Katima Mulilo before transferring to Windhoek to complete his course.

Despite challenges such as limited laboratory facilities in his early years of study, he remained committed to pursuing his goal of entering the pharmaceutical field. In February of this year, he sat for his final examinations, and by March, he received his results, paving the way for registration with the Pharmacy Council.

While his first attempt at the council’s competency calculations proved unsuccessful, Samuka remains determined.

Samuka is preparing to rewrite the examination in November, confident that this milestone will strengthen his credentials and solidify his professional standing.

“I am still hoping that after maybe two to three years, I can go further and study to become a pharmacist,” he said, expressing his long-term vision of continuing his studies and advancing in the medical field.

Determined and inspired

Both circumstance and inspiration influenced Samuka’s decision to enter the pharmacy profession.

Growing up in Katima Mulilo, options for tertiary education were limited, with only a few courses available.

After finishing Grade 12, he spent nearly three years without a clear direction.

The introduction of a pharmacy programme in his hometown became a turning point.

Encouragement from his aunt, a medical doctor who studied in China, further motivated him to pursue pharmacy, opening a path to a career with impact and opportunity.

Nurturing young talent

At Medisan Pharmacy, Samuka will assist in serving the diverse healthcare needs of the public at Wernhill Mall.

His appointment reflects not only his academic preparation but also his resilience in overcoming personal and institutional challenges along the way. His story serves as an inspiration for many young Namibians, especially those from rural areas, who are navigating limited opportunities but striving to build meaningful careers in medicine and healthcare.

Looking ahead, Samuka hopes to build on this new role by gaining valuable workplace experience while continuing to pursue his studies toward becoming a fully qualified pharmacist. His journey embodies Medisan Pharmacy’s commitment to nurturing young professionals and contributing to Namibia’s growing healthcare sector.
