Gondwana Care Trust helps communities across Namibia

The Gondwana Care Trust is strengthening communities across Namibia through education, empowerment, sustainable development, health and environmental initiatives aimed at creating lasting change.

Established in 2017 by Gondwana Collection Namibia, the trust formalised the work of a group of Gondwana employees who began supporting community causes under the name Gondwana Memes in 2012.

The trust was created to ensure community support is managed transparently and fairly, while helping organisations become more independent and self-sustaining. Its core focus is creating sustainable impact, with projects selected based on their ability to deliver long-term benefits to the communities they serve.

Today, the Gondwana Care Trust supports more than 40 projects across Namibia, with education remaining one of its strongest areas of focus. Through initiatives such as MealForTwo and the Back-to-School Project, the trust works to remove barriers that prevent children from accessing education and essential resources.

The MealForTwo programme operates throughout the year, providing food supplies to community partners each month and helping to provide warm meals to about 350 000 people annually.

Since 2018, more than 23 000 school bags have been distributed, while the trust has supported the construction of three classrooms. It has also helped establish sustainable community gardens that promote self-reliance and food security.

One of the projects supported by the trust is Promiseland in Kuisebmund, Walvis Bay, where approximately 500 children receive meals during the week. In the Zambezi region, the trust has also supported infrastructure and sustainable gardening initiatives, including a garden managed by women in Kalundu village.

The trust’s impact also extends to youth empowerment.

One example is its support for young entrepreneur Andrias Akuumba, founder of Kasi Socks, which he established in 2020 at the age of 16. The business operates under a buy-one-donate-one model, donating a pair of socks to a child in need for every pair purchased. Since 2023, the Gondwana Care Trust has purchased 600 pairs of socks, contributing to donations made to children in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.

Beyond education and empowerment, the trust supports health and wellness programmes, including initiatives focused on mental health and emotional well-being among young people. Its environmental work includes the Sikunga Fish Guards project, established in 2018 to protect fish stocks in the Zambezi River, as well as tree planting, animal welfare and conservation initiatives.

The trust works with numerous partners, including Capricorn Foundation, Bank Windhoek, FirstRand Namibia Foundation, Seapride Foods, Gondwana Collection Namibia, PSG Wealth, First National Bank and other like-minded organisations.

Looking ahead, the Gondwana Care Trust aims to expand its impact through education, improved access to online learning in rural communities, health and wellness initiatives, GBV prevention and sustainable opportunities for Namibia’s youth.

Its message to young Namibians is simple: Start today, be kind, support those who are struggling and never give up. Through collective action and partnerships, the trust continues to turn care into action and work towards a more sustainable future for Namibia.
