Mercy at work: From hospital scrubs to MVA Fund care
Raised in the close-knit community of Aminuis in Namibia’s Omaheke region, Mercy Mosemedi’s professional progression has been shaped by a deep-rooted sense of care, service and resilience.
A trained nurse with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Namibia (Unam), Mosemedi built her foundation in hospital corridors long before stepping into the corporate healthcare space.
Away from work, she finds balance in the simplicity of camping in the outdoors, reconnecting with nature and sharing unhurried moments with family and friends.
It is this ability to slow down, reflect and recharge that mirrors her approach to work: thoughtful, grounded and people-centred.
Mosemedi joined the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund on 1 October 2025, a move that marked a significant pivot in her career.
Describing the experience as both exciting and rich with opportunity, she sees the transition not as a departure from nursing but as an expansion of it. The shift has allowed her to grow professionally while remaining anchored in what matters most to her: patient-centred care.
In her current role, Mosemedi serves as a critical link between claimants, service providers and rehabilitation partners. Her days are spent coordinating care, engaging healthcare professionals and ensuring that claimants receive the support they need throughout their recovery journey. It is work that demands collaboration, precision and empathy – qualities she honed during years on hospital wards.
From hospital ward to corporate
A former frontline nurse, Mosemedi brings a holistic lens to everything she does. She understands that recovery extends beyond clinical treatment; it includes emotional reassurance, dignity and long-term reintegration into everyday life. This perspective enables her to connect meaningfully with claimants and to enhance their experience through smart partnerships that prioritise sustainable quality of life.
She is at her best when engaging directly with people, conducting hospital visits, checking in on claimants and ensuring that no one feels like just another case number. Supported by a collaborative team and a positive organisational culture at the MVA Fund, Mosemedi continues to refine her craft and perform at a consistently high level.
One of her proudest milestones has been successfully adapting to a professional environment outside the hospital setting. Navigating the shift from physically demanding, high-pressure nursing shifts to the structured rhythm of corporate healthcare required both discipline and adaptability, traits Mosemedi possesses in abundance.
Like many healthcare professionals making a similar transition, her first challenge was adjusting to a new pace of work. Moving from long, fast-paced hospital hours to a structured 07:30 to 16:30 workday demanded recalibration. Yet, she has found balance in this new rhythm, appreciating the stability and clarity it brings.
Today, Mosemedi values the healthy work-life balance her role affords, supported by structured working hours and a supportive organisational culture. Known for her empathy, calm under pressure and strong communication skills, she remains deeply committed to the MVA Fund’s mission of supporting recovery, restoring dignity and helping people across Namibia rebuild their lives after trauma.
