NYEF names Fanuel Shinedima new CEO
The Namibia Youth Energy Forum (NYEF) has appointed Fanuel Shinedima as its new chief executive officer (CEO).
Shinedima, who previously served as a director of the forum, assumed the role on 1 July for a five-year term.
The NYEF described his appointment as an important step as the organisation continues to support young Namibians’ participation in the energy sector.
Shinedima said he was honoured by the opportunity and viewed it as a chance to build on the organisation’s existing work.
“I feel deeply honoured and humbled. It is a significant responsibility, and I see it as an opportunity to build on the work already done,” Shinedima said.
Shinedima’s career has focused on community engagement, partnerships and Namibia’s development. He previously worked at TotalEnergies EP Namibia, where he gained experience in community relations and corporate affairs. He also contributed to NYEF’s growth as a platform connecting young Namibians with opportunities in the energy sector.
Shinedima said his leadership style was collaborative and centred on service.
“I believe in collaborative and servant leadership," he told Careers. "I value teamwork, open communication and empowering others to contribute their ideas. I believe the best leaders create opportunities for others to succeed while remaining focused on delivering results,” he added.
While Shinedima initially studied accounting at Stellenbosch University, his career path later led him into the energy sector and leadership.
"While my professional journey ultimately led me into the energy sector, I have continued to develop my skills through practical experience, leadership opportunities and continuous learning in stakeholder engagement, project management and business development,” Shinedima said.
On his new role, he said he is most excited about engaging with NYEF’s members, partners, government and academia to expand the forum’s impact and create opportunities for young Namibians.
Shinedima told Careers that building strong connections and remaining open to learning have been key to his growth in the energy sector.
“One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that relationships matter. Success in the energy sector is built on trust, collaboration and listening to diverse perspectives," he said.
"I have also learned that continuous learning and adaptability are essential in such a dynamic industry."
Shinedima said he was proud of his contribution to NYEF’s growth into a national platform connecting young Namibians with opportunities in the energy sector.
Opportunities are there
Looking ahead, he said his vision is for NYEF to become a leading youth platform for energy leadership, skills development and industry engagement in Namibia. He aims to expand the forum’s reach, strengthen partnerships with industry, government and universities, and create more training and mentorship opportunities.
Shinedima said he remains motivated by the opportunity to contribute to Namibia’s development and support young people in reaching their potential. He said seeing others grow and succeed reinforces his belief that leadership is about creating a positive and lasting impact.
"I am inspired by the opportunity to contribute to Namibia's development and to create pathways for young people to succeed," Shinedima said.
He encouraged young people not to underestimate their potential, saying the energy sector offers numerous opportunities.
“Don’t underestimate your potential. Stay curious, invest in your skills, build meaningful relationships and be willing to start where you are. The opportunities are there for those who prepare themselves and remain committed to growth,” he said.
His appointment comes as the forum approaches its third anniversary, marking a period of growth and increased national visibility.
Since joining NYEF’s leadership, Shinedima has contributed to the organisation’s efforts to advance youth participation, skills development, local content, entrepreneurship and stakeholder engagement within Namibia’s energy sector.
