Q: Can you briefly introduce yourself and describe your current role as manager at Bank Windhoek?
A: My name is Clarissa Huisamen, and I am the manager of SME at Bank Windhoek. My role focuses on supporting our branches and clients, helping businesses grow, and ensuring that we deliver meaningful solutions that create value for our customers.
Q: What does being a manager mean to you?
A: Leadership is about positively influencing and empowering others. An effective leader helps people grow, listens actively and provides guidance that enables others to succeed. Above all, leaders should have a genuine willingness to help and support those around them.
Q: What have your experiences in the banking industry taught you?
A: The most important lesson I have learned is to always be yourself and give your best in every opportunity you take on. Success requires resilience, consistency and the determination to never give up on your goals.
Q: What are some of the biggest lessons you have learnt throughout your career?
A: Do not take setbacks personally. Feedback and correction are opportunities for growth, not signs of failure. Stay humble, remain teachable and be willing to learn from every experience.
Q: What skills do you believe professionals need to remain relevant in this changing environment?
A: Technology, particularly AI, is transforming the way we work. Professionals need to embrace change, remain adaptable, and continuously learn new skills to stay relevant in an evolving industry.
Q: What do you believe are some of the biggest misconceptions young people have about working in banking?
A: Many people view banking as an easy or predictable career. In reality, it is demanding, fast-paced, and requires resilience, problem-solving, and a strong commitment to delivering results.
Q: What are important qualities in a banking job?
A: These qualities are essential. Discipline builds reliability, communication strengthens relationships, adaptability helps us navigate change, and continuous learning ensures ongoing personal and professional growth.
Q: What advice would you give to young professionals who aspire to move into management or leadership positions?
A: Invest in your own growth first. Develop emotional intelligence, become someone others can trust, and never stop learning. Read widely and stay informed about developments in business, leadership, and human behaviour.
Q: What has shaped your approach to work and leadership the most?
A: The people I have worked with throughout my career have influenced me the most. Learning from different leaders, colleagues, and clients has taught me the importance of empathy, integrity, and leading by example.

A: Be curious and never stop learning. The world is changing faster than ever, and those who remain open to new ideas, skills, and experiences will always have opportunities to grow and succeed.
