Hessie Hugo brings new vision, heart to Tabled Namibia
Since joining Bright Design CC, trading as Tabled Namibia in March, Hessie Hugo has brought passion, focus and a fresh perspective to her role as project and design manager.
Tabled is a Windhoek-based crafts lab specialising in made-to-order furniture and design pieces. The company blends character, authenticity and innovation through an artful fusion of welding, woodwork, concrete casting and textile craftsmanship.
The studio works exclusively with locally sourced natural materials, including Namibian granite, marble, Kiaat wood, metals and the region’s distinctive red desert sand.
Inspired to start a new career chapter, Hugo says she joined Tabled to allow her to grow in a field close to her heart: interior design.
“I was looking for a space where I could learn and contribute meaningfully. Tabled Namibia stood out as the perfect fit,” she says.
In her current role, Hugo manages projects from start to finish, coordinating between clients, designers and suppliers while keeping timelines and budgets on track.
Although still involved mostly in the administrative side, she stays close to the creative process by observing and learning from her colleagues.
“Creativity, to me, comes from being open-minded and constantly learning. I'm excited to contribute more on the design side as I grow.”
Embracing the new
A highlight so far, Hugo says, has been working on the new showroom.
“Watching it transform from a blank space into a beautifully curated interior was an incredible experience. It reflects the spirit and quality we stand for."
She approaches her work with a clear structure and strong attention to detail, prioritising tasks, staying organised and communicating effectively to keep operations running smoothly.
Her biggest challenge so far, she admits, has been stepping into the world of bookkeeping.
“It’s something I dropped in school, so picking it up now has been tough, but also empowering. Real life is very different from the classroom.”
What inspires Hugo's style? A countryside upbringing gave her a strong eye for colour and texture, which she combines with creative exploration on platforms like Pinterest. “Design should be something the client connects with; it should tell their story.”
Looking ahead, she hopes to grow into a more creative role while continuing to build her skills. “We’re still a young team, and I believe in learning through experience. I’m committed to staying with Tabled Namibia long-term and making a meaningful contribution.”
