Human Resource Insights: Elgira Hummel

For this 22-year-old HR practitioner at SSE Accounting Firm, choosing a workplace goes beyond simply securing employment.

“I think choosing a workplace is not just about getting a job. It is about finding a space where I can grow and thrive,” she says. “I want to be in a place where I can see myself in the future.”

She says working at SSE Accounting Firm has reinforced the importance of aligning personal values with an organisation’s culture and vision. “At SSE Accounting Firm, I have learned that it is very important to match my values and goals with the company’s culture and vision. This is crucial for long-term growth.”

Her daily routine plays a central role in maintaining focus and productivity. She begins each day with prayer and reflection. “I start my day with a prayer. I take a moment to thank God for the chance to work in the field I am studying,” she says. “Knowing what my job is about keeps me focused. I know what I need to do to achieve my goals.”

Teamwork, she adds, is central to a healthy workplace. “I believe teamwork is about working together. Everyone is unique and brings their own strengths and weaknesses,” she says. “When we respect each other’s differences, we can work together smoothly.”

She believes trust and communication are key to building strong working relationships.

Her view of workplace culture is shaped by a strong emphasis on respect and inclusion. “For me, workplace culture should be about respect and inclusion,” she says. “Every employee should feel appreciated, no matter where they come from or what their job is.”

She adds that a sense of belonging is essential for motivation and performance.

Like many early-career professionals, she says challenges are part of the learning process, particularly while building relationships and developing experience. “I have found that being professional, fair and transparent helps me overcome these challenges,” she says. “These qualities are essential in human resources, which is the heart of any organisation.”

Her motivation comes from believing in the organisation’s goals and feeling valued in her role. “When I feel recognised and appreciated, I am more focused and engaged,” she says. “I try to keep learning and improving my skills. Growth is a continuous process.”

To maintain balance, she sets clear boundaries between work and personal life. “Once I have finished my work, I take time to relax and enjoy my life. This helps me stay healthy and balanced.”

She also stresses the importance of fairness in resolving workplace conflict. “In HR, we need to be fair and respectful. I believe in solving problems together and protecting relationships. This strengthens the team and builds trust.”

Ultimately, she says passion is what drives career success. “When I love what I do, it is easier to overcome obstacles. Being an HR practitioner at SSE Accounting Firm at the age of 22 is a big responsibility, but it is also something I am proud of.”
