Beyond content: Marketing that connects

My first degree is in business computing, which gave me a strong foundation in how systems and businesses operate.

Over time, through my love for digital storytelling, I discovered marketing and realised it was more than just creating content, it was about influence, strategy, and connection.

That curiosity led me to pursue a second degree in marketing, with a focus on digital, because I wanted to fully understand both the creative and strategic sides of the field. I currently work in the banking space, which has been incredibly insightful. It challenges you to think beyond aesthetics and focus on impact, results, and stakeholder value.

At its core, my role is about solving problems through creativity. I work closely with internal stakeholders to understand their needs, then translate that into campaigns, ideas, or strategies that connect with our external audience. It is a balance between strategy and storytelling and analysing what works while building experiences people can relate to. Collaboration is key, aligning with different teams and ensuring that everything we produce delivers value.

My journey into marketing started from a passion that evolved over time. I have always enjoyed creating, but I realised I enjoyed creating with intention. Understanding that something I create can influence how people think, feel, or act shifted my perspective. It became less about content and more about impact.

Bringing offers to life

Marketing is what differentiates one brand from another. Many businesses may offer similar products or services, but marketing brings those offerings to life. It is about storytelling, visualising value, and creating experiences. People may forget numbers, but they remember how something made them feel. That emotional connection builds loyalty, trust, and long-term relationships.

Adaptability, communication, and curiosity are essential skills in today’s marketing environment. The industry moves fast, and trends evolve quickly, requiring constant learning. Digital marketing has transformed the field by enabling real-time engagement and direct interaction with audiences. It is no longer just about pushing a message, it is about building relationships.

One common misconception is that marketing is simply about posting on social media. In reality, it is about understanding human behaviour and creating meaningful experiences. Letting go of perfectionism has also been an important lesson, as progress and consistency often matter more.

For those entering the field, the advice is simple: start now. Create, experiment, and learn through doing. Marketing is built through experience, curiosity, and community. The importance of collaboration stands out, growth happens faster when learning from others and building meaningful connections.
