Jason Bentley appointed as WIS primary school principal

Windhoek International School has appointed Jason Bentley as its new primary school principal, with effect from August, following an international recruitment process.

Bentley brings nearly three decades of experience in international education.

Bentley, a British national, speaks both English and German and has broad experience in International Baccalaureate education, with a particular focus on the Primary Years Programme.

He previously served at Frankfurt International School, where he contributed to curriculum design, assessment practices and collaborative teaching approaches.

His work there centred on promoting interdisciplinary learning, student agency and international-mindedness across the classroom.

More recently, Bentley served as founding headmaster of Malvern College Japan, where he helped establish the school's academic vision, culture and operational framework from the ground up.

His background reflects a combination of strategic leadership and hands-on educational development in diverse international contexts.

High-quality appointment

Ethan Van Drunen, educational director at Windhoek International School, said the appointment reflected the school's commitment to strong academic leadership and continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

“Jason is an outstanding educational leader whose thinking and practice share the very best of the IB Primary Years Programme,” Van Drunen said, adding that Bentley's ability to build and sustain high-quality learning environments made him the strongest candidate for the role.

Bentley said he was honoured to be joining the Windhoek International School community.

“WIS’s commitment to excellence, inclusion, international-mindedness and the holistic development of children strongly resonates with the educational values I have steadfastly promoted throughout my career," he said.

He said he is excited to continue the good work of the current principal, Jenna Brown.

"I look forward to working closely with WIS students, teachers, and families to further develop a Primary Years Programme where every child knows they belong and enjoys ownership, challenge and purpose in their learning.”
