Science research and innovation: Dr Anna Matros-Goreses

Dr Anna Matros-Goreses is the executive director of the Namibia University of Science and Technology's (NUST's) Directorate of Research, Innovation and Partnerships.

She creates a conducive environment to promote, support and facilitate externally-funded research, innovation grants, contracts and project management services in all fields of applied science and technology.

Matros-Goreses provides technical and specialised services to researchers with third-party funding for research and the promotion of internationally competitive research and scholar fraternity while providing cutting-edge research, technology, innovation and entrepreneurial development platforms for knowledge exchange and technology transfer.

According to IndabaX Namibia, Matros-Goreses brings over 18 years of professional experience in management and leadership roles. She earned her PhD in Economic Regulation of Water Management from Cranfield University in England, which provided a foundation for her expertise in evaluating and assessing regulatory and investment tools across diverse systems in Namibia, England, Ghana, Tanzania, and Zambia.

At NUST, Matros-Goreses established the Projects Services Unit (PSU) and led the grants management function. She implemented robust monitoring, evaluation and assessment processes. In her role, she has spearheaded the establishment of the Technology Transfer Office, Entrepreneurial Hub and Post-Graduate Studies Development Centre.

She also enhanced research, development, and support functions, focusing on the research and innovation value chain for socio-economic impact through initiatives like the High-Tech Transfer Plaza Select (HTTPS).

Matros-Goreses has acquired extensive expertise in corporate and public governance and serves on several boards of directors for public enterprises, both nationally and internationally. Notably, she also contributes to the Namibian Intellectual Property Policy and Strategy Implementation Technical Committee.

Matros-Goreses is committed to promoting sustainable development through her extensive involvement in governance and policy implementation. Her contributions to the science industry continue to shape the landscape of higher education and innovation in Namibia and beyond.
