CRAN welcomes RF specialist Joseph Madi

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) appointed Joseph Madi as its new Radio Frequency (RF) Specialist: Other Services in January this year.

“I’m responsible for frequency management and monitoring of the network quality, spectrum utilisation and coverage of the licensees, as well as conducting frequency interference investigations,” he said.

Additionally, he maintains the CRAN monitoring site and assigns spectrum licences in accordance with the Communications Act (No. 8 of 2009), regulations, and service standards.

Madi completed his bachelor’s degree in electronic information engineering at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in June 2015. Then, he completed his Master of Engineering Electrical Systems at the Engineering Institute of Technology in Australia in October 2021. Having previously worked as an Assistant Engineer at the Ministry of Works and Transport for eight years, from August 2016 to January 2025, he became involved in project management for capital projects and provided technical advice to other ministries.

What drew Madi into this field was his secondment by the ministry as an electronic engineer in training at Radio Electronic Pty Ltd in 2023, where he was involved in radio communication systems.

At the beginning of his career, Madi found it challenging to carry out his duties, with the lack of sufficient industry exposure and proper guidance for his career development. “Therefore, I decided to further my studies in electrical systems as this was more in line with my duties and it helped me a lot.”

While Madi maintains his interests in reading, research, soccer and running, he shares, “ I would like to become a leading expert in spectrum management and would like to venture into the academic space.”

Madi believes that career growth is your responsibility and depends on your commitment and self-determination.

He adds in a quote he lives by, “A successful person finds the right place for himself. But a successful leader finds the right place for others.”
