Anampolo Angula: Turning childhood passion into design excellence

Since joining in 2014, senior graphic designer Anampolo Angula at Network Media Hub (NMH) has transformed his childhood passion for art into a lifelong pursuit of visual excellence.

From his early beginnings sketching in primary school to graduating top of his class at the College of the Arts, Angula's career reflects persistence, discipline and a deep respect for design principles.

Known for his clean, precise style and dedication to continuous learning, he balances creativity with clarity, always striving to meet the needs of clients while pushing the boundaries of innovation.

His gift of design began long before his professional career. In primary school, a teacher once asked who wanted to try drawing, and Angula eagerly volunteered. It was then that he discovered his love for art and creativity.

As a quiet child, art became his way of expressing himself, a skill that flourished during his college years. Angula studied New Media Design at the College of the Arts in 2013, a course that included graphic design, photography and web design. The first year was challenging, teaching him persistence and discipline.

He used his tendency to stay awake at night to put in extra hours and pushed himself through three years of rigorous study. Despite being disappointed with his Grade 12 results, he used that as motivation to excel, ultimately graduating as the best performer in his class.

Patience and persistence

When describing his design style, Angula emphasizes the importance of mastering design principles before developing a signature approach. He prefers clean, precise designs and compares the growth of his style to a baby learning to walk: you must fall to learn and evolve. His approach to challenges includes overcoming creative blocks and keeping up with rapidly changing technology, both of which require patience and persistence.

Balancing creativity with clarity and readability is central to Angula’s process. He focuses on the client’s needs while ensuring that each design remains visually appealing. He stays updated through design websites and online communities and credits collaboration with colleagues for helping him meet tight deadlines without sacrificing quality.

Reflecting on lessons learnt, Angula recalls early mistakes, such as failing to double-check designs before submission. These experiences taught him the importance of reviewing work thoroughly. For aspiring designers, he offers this advice: strive for creativity, work efficiently, remain patient, be humble and never settle for ordinary.

Finally, Angula acknowledges the vital role of his family in his journey, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support in helping him achieve success in the design world.
